Community Service
Our collegians are deeply involved in a variety of causes, alongside our primary efforts in volunteering and fundraising for Service for Sight. Here are some of the initiatives we're passionate about:
Lubbock Community Volunteering
Our members actively participate in various local initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity, South Plains Food Bank, Lubbock Dream Center, Caleb's Closet, Keep Lubbock Beautiful, and more.
Texas Tech Volunteer Events
Arbor Day: Initiated by President Bradford Knapp in 1937, Arbor Day is dedicated to beautifying the Texas Tech campus each spring. Faculty, students, and volunteers come together to plant trees and shrubs, continuing this cherished tradition.
Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center: This collaborative effort aims to enhance the quality of life for participants through hippotherapy and therapeutic riding. The program also trains students in equine-assisted therapy and contributes to research in this field.
FSL Spring Candy Hunt: We assist Fraternity and Sorority Life with their annual egg hunt, helping set up candy hunts and supervising games.
Meals on Wheels
We support Meals on Wheels, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people remain at home, well-fed, and independent for as long as possible. We decorate bags with holiday themes and uplifting messages, which are then used to package meals
DG Drivers
Our members provide transportation for community members with visual impairments, driving them to work, medical appointments, and other errands. We regularly assist several Lubbock residents and a Texas Tech professor.
High Point Village
High Point Village offers enrichment facilities and community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We engage in various activities like cooking, sports, DIY projects, handbell performances, social skills development, dancing, and worship.
Raider Ranch (Senior Living Facility)
Our members create and send care packages filled with crafts to residents at Raider Ranch, bringing joy and comfort to the senior community.
Alstrom Angels
We support Alstrom Angels, a non-profit organization dedicated to those affected by Alstrom Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder with symptoms including vision loss, diabetes, kidney failure, and more.
Reading to Children
We volunteer at local schools to educate students about visual impairments and blindness. Our members read to children, share cookies with sight-related facts, and distribute braille cards.
